Tragedy! Mandy Straussberg’s goldfish died and she seeks out Harlow Doyle to solve the case. How could this terrible crime have been committed? The goldfish tells the story of how Mandy adopted and loved him, but then began to pay less and less attention to him. He is tortured by her lack of enthusiasm and by her cat and her brother, David. Then Mandy comes to the realization herself…she killed the goldfish by not paying attention to him.

The next episode finds Aubrey depressed at the Timothy Center once again. She desperately tries and finally succeeds at getting enough money to go on a trip with the local youth group. However, when she gets on the bus, she finds that the park was closed ang they are now going to…the Timothy Center! She is having a terrible time at the Center until she meets Billie, a girl who has had a far worse time than she has. Aubrey and Billie then have fun exploring the center together.

Rob Jorgensen talks about "Sunset Bowlawater":
"To make the goldfish sound like he was really underwater, I mixed the sound of a bubble with each syllable he said."

More from the production engineer on "Long Way Home":
"If you listen carefully while Aubrey is babysitting, you'll hear the episode 'Real Time' on the television in the background." Nice touch!

Discussion Questions:

  • How did Crackers the Goldfish die?
  • Jesus said (in Luke 16:10) “Whoever can be trusted with little things can also be trusted with much.” What did Jesus mean? If your parents ask you to do something around the house, how can you prove that you can be trusted?
  • How can doing a little thing well—like your chores—lead to bigger responsibilities?
